Proofreading is the process of editing a target text so that it is semantically and stylistically equivalent to the source text. In layman's terms, a translation is "brushed up" so that it is not recognisable as a translation.
Especially when translating texts that the customer wants to present themselves with (website, e-shop, marketing materials and other sales texts), it is recommended to use the 4-eyes principle, i.e. in addition to the translator, the text (numbers, names, abbreviations, spelling beyond the scope of the usual spell check tool) should be checked by a second person. Proofreading is always carried out by a person (native speaker of the target language) other than the translator. I use reliable collaborators for these services.

Machine translation (MT) works by using artificial intelligence algorithms to compare vast amounts of bilingual data and generate a target text based on probability – the statistically most likely, not guaranteed, translation.
AI itself would answer yes. But while the quality of translation is fine for a pancake recipe, it is a different story when it comes to professional economic or marketing text or instruction manual, which is interwoven not only with technical terms, but also with specific concepts such as state standards, product names, references to trends, cultural customs, etc. From a professional point of view, I definitely do not recommend using free AI tools, which, in addition to putting limits on their capacities, do not guarantee the protection of your data and can store your inserted texts or further use them.
Of course. There are types of texts whose quality the reader will turn a blind eye to (e.g. personal posts on social networks, call centre tickets, non-binding work instructions), but if you want the public (business partners, clients, employees) to take your words seriously, it is necessary to post-edit the machine translation (similar to proofreading). This principle can also be understood as risk management: where it does no harm, you can save, but if harm is already possible, definitely invest in quality control.
Translation ethics say that a professional, high-quality, natural-sounding translation that won't require significant editing can only be carried out by a native speaker who is a master of their mother tongue. So, even though I have a very high command of my working languages and still use them regularly, I will only bet my life (and your text!) on my mother tongue – Czech – which literally runs through my veins. I think that's fair.
I immediately prepare a price quote for you depending on the required service, source language, complexity and deadline. Unlike many translators, I calculate the volume of the order by the number of source words instead of standard pages, so you only need to multiply the number of words in Word by the appropriate rate, which is in units of euro cents. This way, you will know the final price before I even start working on the order, and you will not pay a single cent extra. However, if your document is in a non-editable format, I will calculate the order by the target words. In case of particularly demanding formatting, poor readability, etc., even by the hour. I also charge for editing documents according to your wishes for the resulting hours. On the other hand, transcription is normally charged by the minutes of the source recording.
